UMALUSI
Why should our school be evaluated by neighbouring schools?
The independent school sector is fairly competitive. Why should our school be evaluated by teachers from the neighbouring schools?
The use of peer site evaluators is consistent with Umalusi’s developmental approach to school improvement. Site visits are not just intended to verify desktop evaluations but are also intended to enhance the capacity of evaluators and schools to facilitate the requisite school improvement in their schools or neighbouring schools. In an effort to ensure that evaluators and monitors conduct themselves ethically, they are sworn to secrecy and are subject to a code of ethics. Furthermore, they are not required to make any decision but to rather recommend whether the candidacy of the schools they visited should be confirmed or not confirmed. Their recommendation is subject to approval by Umalusi. It must also be noted that schools are required to give us feedback on their experience of the site visits.
