Our school offers a foreign/international curriculum. Are we expected to apply for accreditation with Umalusi?
No. As per current legislation, Umalusi accredits independent schools which fall within its quality assurance scope. These are independent schools which:
- are registered or provisionally registered with the Provincial Department of Education (PDE);
- offer the National Curriculum Statements (Grades R-12);
- conduct assessment of learner achievement in accordance with the National Protocol on Assessment (2005); and
- are preparing their grade 12 learners to write the national examination with the relevant provincial department of education, Independent Examination Board (IEB) or Onafhanklike Afrikaanse Eksamensraad (OAE) .
