Welcome to 2010 with all its promises!

Hi everyone
Welcome to 2010 with all its promises!
The NQF certainly has taken centre stage in recent weeks as many South Africans considered furthering their learning and the NQF helpdesk team has received many questions related to selecting genuine and quality qualifications and providers.
In many cases while exploring the matter further with the client (learner) it was discovered that the link between career choice and qualification choice was not linked to interest or ability but rather to monetary reward. I fully understand that money is important but it cannot be the single factor in making a qualification and as a result, career choice.
One client we recently engaged with at the NQF helpdesk wanted to study either accounting or law or engineering or IT and was pushing the NQF helpdesk team to give him an opinion on which field would give him the best chance of getting rich! We tried to help him understand his own strengths and passions to get him to make a more informed and balanced choice but he was just not interested...
So we gave him information on the NQF accredited providers and qualifications in all the fields and let him go on his way. I wonder what his view will be 10 years from now.
I recently was interviewed on SAFM and was asked what advice I can give to listeners. My answer was:
- Establish your career of choice,
- Find out who the leading employers are,
- Establish what their entry qualifications requirements are to the job of your dreams,
- Identify the leading providers that are NQF accredited to offer the specified qualification and then….
- Go for it!
Simple and not easy but we believe essential.
All the best in your journey of lifelong learning
