What a year it's been!

Mon, 14 Dec 2009 14:12

The global economic recession certainly ensured that every one of us looked a lot closer at what was in our wallets and what we owed. We really hope you have taken stock of your longer term financial planning needs and challenges.

And given that national statistics indicate that 1 million South Africans have lost their jobs as a result of the crisis, it certainly is a time to reflect.

The accounting and auditing profession talks about the Balance Sheet when they consider the assets (own) and liabilities (owe) of an organisation. In that process they look very closely at the fair valuation of the items on the balance sheet and make sure that assets are not overstated and liabilities understated. You should consider your own skills balance sheet in the same way. It may be that there are some critical gaps that you need to see!

We want to suggest that in this time of giving you strongly consider giving yourself a gift. The gift obviously being that course or programme that will close or narrow and your skills gap and significantly enhance your status in the wider world of work.

2010 is a very exciting and energizing year for all South Africans. We urge you to join the excitement and make the commitment to learn.

The NQF helpdesk team also takes this opportunity to wish you well over the festive season and the year ahead.
